  22.07.10 Andrea Opel accepts appointment as Assistant Professor of Law

Andrea Opel has accepted an appointment to become an Assistant Professor of Tax Law at the University of Lucerne School of Law. Her appointment is effective 1 August 2010. Mrs. Opel is looking forward to teaching and furthering her expertise in national and international tax as well as (family) foundation and trust law. meyerlustenberger congratulates Andrea Opel on her appointment and is very pleased that she will continue as a counsel to meyerlustenberger.

  09.07.10 Andrea Opel and Christian Eichenberger awarded the Professor Walther Hug Prize

Andrea Opel and Christian Eichenberger have both been honoured with the prestigious Professor Walther Hug Prize for their doctoral theses on "The fiscal treatment of family foundations, founders and beneficiaries – in an international and a national context" and "The duty to tell the truth of persons involved in drawing up a public deed in the crossfire of federal law and cantonal law" respectively.  This prize is awarded to the best doctoral theses submitted to Swiss universities. meyerlustenberger is particularly proud of the fact that two of its employees have received this prize and would like to congratulate the two winners.

  21.06.10 Simon Holzer and Mark Schweizer appointed part-time judges to the Federal Patent Court

In June 2010, the Federal Assembly appointed Simon Holzer and Mark Schweizer as part-time judges to the Federal Patent Court. This new court will have jurisdiction over all patent disputes in Switzerland. It will take up its activities in 2011 and will help ensure that Switzerland remains internationally competitive, not only in the field of technical innovation, but also in the protection offered to new inventions. The new court will be served mainly by part-time judges with technical and legal training. It will initially be located in Berne, but will move to St. Gallen in summer 2012. The appointment of two of the ten part-time judges from the ranks of meyerlustenberger underlines the leading position of our IP team in intellectual property law in Switzerland.
